Koundou Ginna

The Dogon Women’s Initiative was founded under the guidance of Jacqti de Leeuw, and has the objective to stimulate the development of the Dogon women and to support then with realizing their plans. This is achieved by offering guidance, funding for micro credit and leadership training.

In Koundou such an organization of women from this village was realized the same way. After successful initiatives, under which the production of clothes, starting vegetable patches and daycare of young children, a new project started in Koundou Ginna. From the collaboration of eight villages the money and knowledge were brought together to realize a women’s clinic. In this clinic the Dogon women are able to receive support under proper hygienic circumstances during pregnancy, birth and care.

The village community donated the land and 20% of the construction cost, and the Dogon Women’s Initiative took care of the other financing, ADI took care of the realization. The building is constructed with brickwork of compressed earth. The clinic consists of two examining rooms and one treatment room. The open front is a waiting area. Next to the clinic a walled drinking water facility was realized as well as a stand-alone latrine with a shower area. The area around the clinic will be used as a garden.
